Avengers Assemble for Labor Day Weekend
by Britt Franklin
Didn’t get to see The Avengers that third, fourth, or fifth time like you planned upon its theatrical release in May? Well, you’ll get another chance this Labor Day weekend when the super-powered blockbuster returns for a limited time! (For those without calendars, that means it starts TODAY.)
The Avengers assemble again in 1,700 theatres across the nation, bringing Iron Man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow together in their rocky first battle against emo-trickster Loki. Marvel released an alternate opening(http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/the-avengers-2012/trailers/the-avengers-blu-ray-deleted-scene-alternate-opening-30416293.html) to the film earlier this week as well as deleted scenes featuring Captain America and Hulk.
The Avengers 2 won’t be released until May 2015, but at least we have “Phase Two” of the Marvel films leading up to it to hold us over. So far, the films are as follows: Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013; Thor: The Dark World (with Nerd Machine’s own Zachary Levi as Fandral the Dashing) on November 8, 2013; Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014; and Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014.
Joss Whedon, who signed a deal to work with Marvel through 2015 and will be returning as writer-director for the highly-anticipated Avengers sequel, sent fans into a frenzy when it was announced that he would be writing and directing the pilot for a S.H.I.E.L.D. television series for ABC. Whedon talked The Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D. and more with Vulture, and you can check out the full interview here(http://www.vulture.com/2012/08/joss-whedon-talks-all-things-marvel-with-vulture.html).
Marvel’s The Avengers returns to theatres today through September 6, and will be released on DVD and Blu-ray September 25.
