Nerd HQ last year was an open location with scheduled panels, and last minute some panels were cancelled/added. The best source for the official information will be the TNM twitter account @thenerdmachine

Wait hq is seperate XD. I feel stupid.
Nerd HQ 2011 took place at a bar/cafe in the Gaslamp District, less then 5 minute walk from SDCC. It was equipped with Xbox 360 consoles (20+) and games that had not yet publicly released; Gunslinger, SpiderMan: Edge of Time, StarWars (Kinect), Gears of War 3, Rayman, Dance Central, and a few others. It was free to visit the NERD HQ venue and play these games.
During the 4 day event there were charity discussion panels, where celebs sat in a room of about 150 fans spoke for about 30 mins (aprx) answering questions for the other 30 mins (aprx)- a signing session usually followed. Discussion celebs from 2011 INCLUDED- Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), Seth Green (Robot Chicken and a bunch of moovies), Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob), Psych panel with James Roday and Dulé Hill, A firefly cast panel with Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin and Jewel Staite, Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly), Zachary Levi introduced most of the panels and was on about 4 or 5 of them.
The Charity Discussion Panels of 2011 only cost you a $20 donation to Operation Smile. In addition to attending the panel the charitable panel attendees received a Nerd HQ lanyard, Nerd HQ Bracelet, assigned seating (so one less line to sit in for hours hoping for a good seat), and -in most cases- autographs from the panel celeb.
Nerd HQ also hosted a scavenger hunt and a Gears of War 3 play off with Zachary Levi (<--it was a surprise and not on a public schedule). The NERD party was on Friday night- this is not a 'hang out with celebs' event, they had their own VIP party going on upstairs.
Throughout the 4 days celebs would randomly roam the public (non VIP) areas such as Zachary Levi (although after about 5 minutes he'd get mobbed and have to leave but he did come around a coupe times a day), Adam Baldwin sat at the bar with his wife and chatted with Firefly/Chuck fans for quite awhile, Mark Christopher Lawrence (aka Big Mike of Chuck) was spotted on the main floor quite a few times and was never too busy to chat with you or take a photo. James Roday and Dulé Hill were both hanging out at the venue days before their panel. *these were just SOME of the instances I witnessed, I have been privy to hear second hand stories of celeb sighting at the venue like Chevy Chase, Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), and more.

85 downloadsIt is definitely a fun event, and it's a great cause, Last year they raised 40,000 for operation smile....so great!
I was there on sunday, and i went to the morning panel, then went to comic con, and I was actually a bit bored there and after two hours we decided to go back to Nerd HQ., In my opinion i thought it was more fun than ComicCon, but then again it was sunday, and it was dying down.

Dates: July 12-15. based off last year. it ran concurrent with SDCC.
Location: Culy Warehouse, 335 Sixth Street, San Diego (2-3 blocks from SDCC.
It's going bigger in 2012. Culy Warehouse is huge and 3 levels. I always rave on how epic 2011 was, but now 2012 looks to top it.
