Grand Theft Auto V Gameplay Footage Released

Rockstar Games debuted the first gameplay footage of the hotly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V this past week. The trailer, I guess you could call it, was about five minutes long and wasn’t quite like any previous tease I’ve seen from the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Usually, we’re treated to a montage of guns, cars and girls backed with a rocking soundtrack. This time, however, it was almost premiered as an instructional video. We did get a glimpse not only at some of the campaign featuring three playable characters, but we also saw some of the leisurely activities one could expect. I am really looking forward to playing the game as an up-and-coming venture capitalist investing in Ammunation and ‘Pay ‘n’ Spray stock. Multiple characters, tons of activities to kill the time, a large map and a deep multiplayer system means the game looks to be bigger than anything we’ve seen before.

Microsoft Restructures Divisions, Hires New Lead
Earlier in the week, Don Mattrick left Microsoft to become the CEO of Zynga. Mattrick was formerly the president of the Interactive Entertainment Business for Microsoft, a title he held for the past six years. Since his departure, Microsoft has undergone a restructure of the company. The former Interactive Entertainment Business is now the Devices and Studios Engineering Group and will be managed by Julie Larson-Green. According to www.videogamer.com, Larson-Green will, “…take responsibility for Microsoft’s ‘studios experiences,’ including ‘games, music, video and other entertainment’”. The change it titles is expected to help Microsoft unify all of their products for a better experience, regardless of what you are logged into or what you own.

Ratchet and Clank Return

Sony is usually pretty good when it comes to teasing new games. They recently sent out a series of images that slowly pieced the first look at Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus. Coming out for the PlayStation 3 (and possibly the PlayStation Vita) this fall, Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus showcases the two heroes returning to a single-player experience, something a little more familiar with the franchise. Being developed by Insomniac Games, the new title in the Ratchet and Clank series will mostly take place in space, which will allow for some interesting game mechanics and puzzles. Insomniac Games has stated that Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus will be available for retail and download for a staggering $29.99 when it is released.

Final Fantasy 7 Released on Steam

One of the most influential and best-selling video games of all time, Final Fantasy 7, has been released on the Steam platform. Although it isn’t the high-definition remake we’ve been hoping for, it is a re-release on a game that is relatively hard to find if you’re not willing to pay big money (some copies are selling for over $700 on ebay.com). Released on the PC in recent years on Square Enix’s website, Final Fantasy 7 for Steam includes thirty-six Steam Achievement, some controller support and being saved by Cloud…I mean, saving your game on the Cloud. The re-release will cost you about 240 gil, which exchanges to about $11.99 (this exchange rate is completely accurate, mind you).

There you have some of the biggest stories from the past week in the wide world of video games. So, Nerds, what did you think of the Grand Theft Auto V trailer? Did you predict a new Ratchet and Clank game was going to be announced? Itching to dive back into Midgar? Have any thoughts on the Microsoft restructure?
