Gamers Digest: September 3
by Stephen Janes (@stephenkjanes)
The Gamers Digest is designed to inform you Nerds with all the latest happenings in the world of video games. Today we have the Wii U price cut information, the first information on a new Nintendo handheld console, rumors regarding PlayStation 4 bundles and some free games you can pick up on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Wii U Getting Price Cut and Wind Waker HD Bundle
Nintendo announced that, starting September 20th, the deluxe version of the Wii U will receive a fifty-dollar price drop, bringing the console down to $299.99. In addition, a bundle including The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker will go on sale for the same price. The Wind Waker bundle looks to be the best deal, as you get the Wii U console, a 32GB hard drive, a digital copy of the game and Hyrule Historia and a special Zelda-themed controller.
Nintendo 2DS Announced
In a move nobody anticipated, Nintendo announced the 2DS handheld console, slated for release on October 12 (the same day as Pokemon X and Y). The 2DS functions exactly like a Nintendo 3DS except it will not have the ability to project 3D images like its counterpart. The new handheld is marketed at a younger audience and to those who are still skeptical about playing with 3D, even though you can just turn off this feature rather easily. The Nintendo 2DS can be yours for $129.99 and will launch in both red and blue colors.
Xbox One Headset three times better than Xbox 360
Originally, Microsoft wasn’t going to include a headset when the Xbox One was shipped. Not only did they change their mind, they made drastic improvements regarding the quality of the headset. According to Larry Hyrb, Director of Programming for Xbox Live, the new headset captures, “…speech at 24 KHz PCM, which is triple the rendering sample rate and a 50 percent capture rate improvement over Xbox 360 headsets.” This improvement is mostly thanks to Skype being integrated on the Xbox One and you can hear the vast differences by clicking on the link provided above.
PlayStation 4 Bundles Are “On The Way”
Recently, there was a leaked image on Amazon France that suggested a Killzone: Shadow Fall bundle would be released. Sony has since confirmed that PS4 bundles are happening, but didn’t comment on the Killzone bundle. The Killzone bundle, whether true or not, includes a PS4 with a 500GB hard drive, an extra Dualshock4 controller, the PlayStation Camera and the game. Knowing Sony’s history with PS3 bundles, it’s almost assured something will crop up and the rumors looks like the PS4 bundle will cost just as much as a standalone Xbox One.
