New Mass Effect DLC Revealed

Bioware, just take my money! After much teasing and speculation, Bioware has finally released information on their new DLC for the Mass Effect trilogy. Mass Effect 3: Citadel is the newest, and last, DLC for the award winning sci-fi epic. Scheduled for release in the first week of March (March 5th for XBox, and March 6th for PS3 and PC), Mass Effect 3: Citadel will offer players more insight into Shepard’s story.

Though specifics are still being kept quiet, Bioware’s release on their website states, “When a sinister conspiracy targets Commander Shepard, you and your team must uncover the truth, through battles and intrigue that range from the glamour of the Citadel’s Wards to the top-secret Council Archives. Uncover the truth and fight alongside your squad – as well as the cast from the original Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, including Urdnot Wrex!”

But that’s not all. It seems that Bioware has heard the outcry from a large section of the fanbase and have included reconnections with squadmates, and love interests, from the entire trilogy. Shep even gets his own living space on the Citadel which you can customize and decorate.

Now, without more information, I’m not sure if the reconnections with favorite characters from the entire trilogy, not to mention the added content with Shep’s love interest(s), will be actual interactive content or cinematics. Bioware hints that it will include both.

The DLC will be released for $14.99 and will be available in two parts on XBox. This is the DLC I’ve been wanting since I completed Mass Effect 3 the first go around. I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Will you be getting Mass Effect 3: Citadel?

I’m waiting to see what the general opinion of it is (bascially, what happens?). At first I thought it sounded good but then at the same time it seems like it will be really jarring with the narrative of the game. My previous squad mates will allegedly be off helping me in the war against the reapers but also hanging out on the Citadel if I should choose to take a break from all this ‘save the galaxy’ malarky. For example, Miranda keeps arranging all these covert meetings and insisting she has to be off on her own mission and can’t help me…but will pop up on the Citadel for some poker (or even just the mission itself?).

So, for the moment, it strikes me as potentially tonally inappropriate in the context of the main storyline as well as potentially causing a number of characters to be in two places at once or their dialogue in the main story to be non-sensical.

So if there’s some confirmation that it doesn’t do that, I’d be more inclined to buy it. If there’s an overwhelming feeling that it’s awesome then I definitely will.

I can certainly understand having reservations about it, and where it will fit within the narrative. I think I may be so excited about the promises of interaction with ME1 and ME2 squadmates, however, that I may not even care if it fits at all. It’s a certain purchase for me. I’ll risk disappointment to play it and hang with Wrex and the gang.
