Magic the Gathering M14 Planeswalkers Black-on-Black Alternate Artwork Set, Hasbro Wizards of the Coast $65
Magic the Gathering’s presence at Comic-Con the last few years has grown leaps and bounds. Last year saw many of the usual tournaments moving over to the Marriott and the opening of the MTG Experience location in the Gas Lamp several blocks from the Convention Center. Besides a few promo cards with the SDCC logo, Magic has refrained from releasing any crazy exclusive cards at the show…until now.
With Comic-Con 2014 Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast are releasing all five of the Magic 2014 Core Set’s Planeswalkers in alternate black-on-black art. With M14 being released on July 19, this exclusive set is sure to be absolutely bonkers with two new Planeswalkers, Chandra, Pyromaster and Garruk, Caller of Beasts joining the three previously released in M13.
Scalper Factor: 10/10 (Get it…it’s a MTG joke…like a creature!) Priced at $65, the set is already preselling for more than $300 on eBay. With the new Core Set being released that weekend, interest in this set will be absolutely crazy. Some people will just need their playset of four Jace, Memory Adept alternate art Planewalkers to dazzle at their next Friday Night Magic. Either way expect crowds of Magic players and scalpers clamoring for this set at the Hasbro booth.
Axe Cop Badge Replica, Mezco, $5
Not every exclusive at Comic-Con needs to be some giant $100 action figure set. With Axe Cop jumping from a beloved online comic of everyone’s favorite axe-wielding cop to an animated series debuting on Fox July 27, Comic-Con is the perfect opportunity to jump on the Axe Cop bandwagon with this detailed badge replica by Mezco. As part of Mezco’s Summer Exclusive series, the badge is limited to 1000 pieces and the best part…only costs $5! Mezco will also have plush versions of Avocado Soldier and Wexter, the T-Rex with machine gun arms available for a true Axe Cop trifecta.
Scalper Factor: 1/10 If your big plan is to swoop in on Comic-Con and clear out the Axe Cop Badge sets, you have serious problems in life. The badge also comes in handy for whipping out during drunken escapades in the Gas Lamp during the convention’s after hours.
