Smart is the New Sexy

Have you ever woken up one morning and thought to yourself, “Today is going to be badass.” Well, I have. And I know just how to jumpstart a less-than-average morning. Wardrobe, wardrobe, wardrobe. It’s been missing one specific item that is found on this very website. A shirt with a badass robot on it. Think about it. Add a pair of jeans, some sneakers, maybe even a blazer, and you’ve got yourself one fashionable nerd.
We’ve read some articles on The Nerd Machine and we might have watched the videos, but we have all definitely taken a peek or two at the apparel. These beautiful pieces of nerdery won’t make your wallet scream at you in despair and will definitely be worth the wait to suit up. The white and red NERD logo on the original shirts are reminiscent of a time before Nintendo’s logo switched from red to grey. A time when we weren’t expected to stop playing video games to start working, writing essays or do the washing up. A time where all was right in the world, and well, we were probably seven-years-old.
Now, to make my point with a little less melodramatic humor and a bit more of a modern-day example; think about movies of the ’90s and the stereotypical portrayal of the character labelled “the nerd.” What are they wearing? Glasses? Probably. Suspenders? Definitely. Shirts tucked into their high-waisted trousers? Unequivocally. Turn the camera a little bit to the left, and jump forward fifteen years. Think Fringe, The Big Bang Theory (more Leonard, less Howard), and most importantly, think Chuck.
Television has allowed nerds to come out in their truest form. After all, it has been said that smart is the new sexy. There are no suspenders in sight as Charles Carmichael wears tuxedo after tuxedo while using his computer programming skills to disarm bombs left, right and center. Now there is nothing wrong with a chic pair of suspenders but, while looking through The Nerd Machine’s gear, I was reminded of the quirk and class that the show has represented throughout the years. Whether it’s the iPhone 4 case that transforms your phone into a mix tape, or a USB drive in the shape of a swiss army knife, innovation and creativity threads through this website’s attire. So go ahead and check out The Machine or the ingenious Robonerdicorn tee and see what you think.
Oh yeah. The only disappointment? No, the shirt doesn’t actually come with Zachary Levi wearing it.
