“My, my. The plot, like my gravy, thickens.”

The plot thickens indeed on the newest episode of The Big Bang Theory, “The Thanksgiving Decoupling.” Howard invites the entire gang over to his mother’s house for Thanksgiving dinner because Bernadette’s father, Mike, is coming and he needs some help taking the pressure off. After talking Sheldon into attending, the wheels of intrigue and plot twists begin churning.

Ok, so it’s not Agatha Christie. I think we could see the whole Penny being married in a Vegas wedding via an Elvis impersonator thing coming. It was bound to come up sooner or later given her proclivities for sex and alcohol. Turns out the forgotten husband is Zack, which is appropriate. As a result of Penny and Leonard arguing back and forth, she invites Zack to the Thanksgiving dinner to sign the court papers in order to get the marriage annulled.

This exchange between Leonard and Penny keeps half the house busy. They argue as Raj, Bernadette, and Amy watch and listen with rapt attention. The other half of the house are watching the football game. Of the occupants in the living room, one would think that Howard and Mike Rostenkowski would have the most in common. Howard is married to Mike’s daughter after all. They’ve been in the room with each other on multiple occasions. There was even that failed fishing trip that turned into a gambling trip. And, of course, the other person in the room is Shledon Cooper. Sheldon’s not known for relating to other people on their level. But that’s not how this encounter unfolds at all.

Because of Sheldon’s knowledge of football, Mike discovers that at least one of his daughter’s friends knows something about what he, Mike, loves. Football becomes a common ground. Sheldon and Mike get to talking about how Sheldon’s dad died when he was 14, meaning that he never shared a beer with him. Mike, showing some compassion on pretty much anyone that isn’t Howard, offers to share a beer with Sheldon. Then there’s another, and another, and another. Pretty soon they’re both drunk and Sheldon is burping pi. The two newly-realized beer buddies begin to crack jokes on Howard, his mom, the clowns in the bathroom, and Bernadette. After several beers Sheldon turns into what we can presume is an image of his father, going so far as giving Amy a good butt slap, which Amy seems to kind of enjoy. Of course we all remember her fondness for spanking. I wonder if she’s going to start spiking Sheldon’s Strawberry Quik to bring some more of that out. If she does, I hope she’s prepared for all the vomiting that will undoubtedly ensue.

In typical holiday-themed, not to mention sit-com, fashion everything gets neatly wrapped up at the end. Penny and Leonard make up, Mike says something sort of nice to Howard (well, it wasn’t a complete insult), Raj makes a joke relating to his metrosexualness and Sheldon vomits. Good times are had by all. All in all, it was one of my favorite episodes of Season 7 so far. Thoroughly enjoyable with some great interactions, and one-liners. I think my favorite line of the season so far is: “I just vomited on a lot of clowns.”
