Turtles vs. Zombies

by Britt Franklin

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have come a long way since Bebop and Rocksteady.

Illustrator Blake Henriksen of Pink Havok Studios created a gritty series depicting New York’s underground heroes taking on the undead. Stylized to resemble the Turtles from their comic book origins, each radioactively-enhanced reptile is notably bruised and bloodied from battle and a far cry from their 1980’s counterparts.

I thought the Mortal Kombat arcade game in the background while Michelango goes complete “Cowabunga!” on the zombie was a nice detail. Something that would have made these even cooler would’ve been a zombie-fied April O’Neil and Casey Jones—that’s not too dark for TMNT, right?

In addition to the heroes in half-shells, Blake has other pieces showcasing Star Wars and DC characters in his deviantArt gallery found here.

My two favorite things are now combined in one….. the Ninja Turtles and zombies. I couldn’t ask for anything more
