Versus: Darth Vader vs Jean Grey

By (@comicsonline)

What is Versus? Versus is a 26 Character Single Elimination Bracket. We will feature a new pairing each week till we reach the ultimate champion!

Darth Vader
Strengths: Can use the Force to crush throats, emotions, and rebel forces from great distances. Excellent martial arts skills. Woefully unafraid to chop off his son’s hand when they disagree. Sonorously deep voice.  Wears imposingly badass armor.

Weaknesses: Horrible acne. Previously mentioned badass armor is his life support. What if he gets itchy?

Famous Escapes:  In Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader fights Obi-Wan Kenobi, only to end up injured and charbroiled by lava. Luckily, his bad guy mentor Darth Sidious rescues him from totally burning up, replaces his missing body parts with robot bits and gives DV his very own 3 piece suit for work.

Jean Grey
Strengths: Telekenesis powers strong enough to kill. Can control people’s thoughts and bodily functions (#1 and #2 included I bet).  Can open wormholes, fly, generate flame and breathe unaided in outer space.  First female X-Man.  Sexy red hair cannot be overstated. More lives than 9 cats.

Weaknesses: Kinda shy. The worst X-Men name ever (Marvel Girl). Affinity for men with ruby eyewear. Besties with the cosmic entity known as the Phoenix.

Famous Escapes: In Uncanny X-Men #101, Jean Grey was exposed to a solar storm and would have died from radiation poisoning, before the Phoenix Force decided to put her into a cocoon that lay on the bottom of Jamaica Bay and took her place until she was fully healed.  That said, Phoenix also got busy with Cyclops and killed an entire star system. Let’s try to stay positive, ok?

Are you kidding? Jean Grey would totally beat Darth Vader. Eventually Jean Grey would just get pissed off and go all Phoenix on Darth Vader…at that point, it would be all over.

  4. PeavesNovember 12th, 2012 at 7:15 pm

Darth all the way, red light sabre and Jean Gray= failed Phoenix. No flames, no Phoenix.

Got to go with Jean Grey on this. Not only is she an Omega level mutant without the Phoenix Force, she makes all of the Marvel Universe, cosmic entities included, collectively sh*t their pants when she manifests the Phoenix. Not only that, she also regularly comes back from the dead. While Darth Vader is badass, his force powers are no match, and nowhere near the level of Jean’s.

Jean Grey for Sure, her telekinesis is by far, more powerful than the Force : P

I know I’m very late on this but:
1- Darth Vader couldn’t have been a worse contestant, because What I assume the match-up was supposed to be about force/telekinetic powers. So picking someone who was stronger with the force would have been a better match up. But if you don’t consider Jean and the Pheonix to be the same individual (which some don’t), then it might actually still be a fairer fight. But otherwise a better opponent would have been Luke Skywalker.
2- The force and Jean Grey’s telekinesis works completely differently! The force is a power that can be channeled through living beings in order to manipulate things other than yourself, which effectively eliminates any conventional way of flying like an X-men telekinetic would be able to do, but this does open up to other types of force abilities such as Sith Magics if you were to apply it to someone who knew them. Unfortunately, neither Vader nor Luke knew any Sith magics as far as I know.
3- Force had been developed for hundreds of thousands of years to manipulate things. Abilities you couldn’t even imagine have come out of the development of these force techniques, and nearly every single one of them were developed for some sort of combat-based purpose. Pyrokinesis/cryokinesis, force choke, even the basic force pushes and pulls. Jean’s abilities aren’t usually meant to kill, in fact the X-men practice some level of pacifism regarding to kill only when its necessary. When you think about it, how many people has Jean Grey actually killed as Jean Grey rather than Pheonix? Not nearly as many as Darth Vader has. This isn’t to mention the question: How realistic are the telekinetic powers in the X-men compared to the Force in Starwars?
Because I know that there is actually a scientific-sounding reason behind nearly, if not, every single ability the force may yield (unless it’s Sith magics- but we don’t have to worry about that either way).
4- I don’t know how many tele kinetics that jean has faced off against, but I guarantee that Vader has faced off with and killed an exponentially higher number of tele kinetics since nearly every one of his greater opponents are force sensitive. This means that Vader has far more experience when fighting other force users than Jean has. Vader has killed those as strong with the force as Sidious and Tyranus. Vader has endured their force abilities (though I admit that Sidious didn’t see him coming, but Vader still had to endure a killing level of force lightening- which he died from shortly after either way).
5- The major thing that we’re forgetting here is that Vader has a lightsaber, and is an expert with it too! If Vader were to get within striking range of her, it over for her as soon as Vader’s lightsaber can ignite. Jean doesn’t have a lightsaber, and I can’t think of any instance she has imbued any object/ weapon with her powers (imbuing a weapon with the force makes the weapon capable to resist a lightsaber without being as lethal as a lightsaber- most notably used by Master Vodo Siosk Baas). Mainly because she would have never needed to, though I admit it would be possible for her to do so. but even if she did imbue any weapon, Vader would have an incredibly easy time killing her with his far superior mastery with that tip of weapon.
-In conclusion, Vader vs Jean Grey (not Pheonix), Vader would win no doubt. But if Jean were to go Pheonix for whatever reason, then Vader would probably not survive. BUT! Luke vs Jean/ Pheonix. Luke would certainly win, no problem.
