Have you fallen behind on your nerd news? Don’t worry; we’re here to help! Here are a few stories to bring up at the water cooler this week:
A new Call of Duty game will officially hit shelves November 5. Though not many details have been released, it has been confirmed Call of Duty: Ghosts will be an all-new story with all-new characters set in an all-new world. It will be available for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, and next-generation platforms. More information will be coming during Microsoft’s announcement of the next Xbox on May 21.
Iron Man 3 has become the second highest North American box office debut of all time, coming in behind last year’s The Avengers. Not only that, but debuting to $175.3 million has led it to surpass the last Harry Potter movie ($169.2 million). As for international numbers, it has taken in $504.8 million, beating total box office numbers for Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America.
With the release of Iron Man 3, Marvel Phase 2 has officially begun. Because of its success, fans are already looking forward to new titles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Though it’s not a new A Song of Ice and Fire novel, George R R Martin will be releasing a new book around Christmas. The Wit and Wisdom of Tyrion Lannister will gather “clever and naughty quips” from the fan favorite character, portrayed by Peter Dinklage on HBO’s Game of Thrones. Martin is also said to be hard at work on the sixth and penultimate book in the series, The Winds of Winter.
The second film in the Star Trek series hasn’t even been released yet and there are already talks of a third. Paramount is hoping to have it ready in 2016, the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. Producer and writer Damon Lindelof has mentioned it could feature a Starfleet vs. Klingons plot and that JJ Abrams would probably not be back to direct since he will be working on the new Star Wars movie. Star Trek Into Darkness hits US theatres May 17.
