Along with Disney’s most recent movie release, Wreck-It Ralph, comes two companion apps “Wreck-It Ralph Storybook Deluxe” and “Hero’s Duty Interactive Comic.” The movie Wreck-It Ralph is about a video game villain, Ralph, who doesn’t want to be the bad guy anymore.

Wreck-It Ralph Storybook Deluxe is easy to navigate and designed for young readers to follow Ralph’s adventures through illustrations and narration. Not only is it a storybook app, there is also pretty cool game play aspect.

When you enter the game you are given the choice to read or play. Once you click “Play,” you are transported into a version of Sugar Rush from Wreck-It Ralph. There, you can customize and race a candy kart. It reminded me so much of Mario Kart, which is great because I love it!  To move the kart, all you do is turn the device you are playing on, and it responds well. On some other apps, I feel as if I am turning the device 180 degrees in order for it to respond.  The “Read” option is essentially a reader version of the movie. It has a narration option for kids if they can’t read yet.

Hero’s Duty Interactive Comic is an app that is a prequel to the movie’s Hero’s Duty game.  For those interested in the Hero’s Duty game, this is a nice prequel comic.  The comic contains twenty-two pages that can be viewed panel-by-panel, and a soundtrack accompanies the reader. However, I do wish it was a little longer, but for the price it is acceptable. Considering a normal comic book retails around $4.00 and contains about thirty pages. Instead of it being just like a normal comic app, when you tap for the next panel, the graphics make small movements; creating an interactive comic for the reader. Much like the Wreck-It Ralph Storybook Deluxe, it is extremely easy to navigate and responds nicely to touch.

I was impressed by the graphics in both of the apps. Also, neither of the apps froze on me, so it seems as if they have all of the bugs worked out. For children, they are easily navigable. Both are great apps for someone who wants to interact more within the world of Wreck-It Ralph.

Wreck-It Ralph Storybook Deluxe is available for purchase for $6.99 and Hero’s Duty Interactive Comic retails for $1.99. Both apps are available for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch in the Apps store.

Wreck-It Ralph Storybook Deluxe Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Hero’s Duty Interactive Comic Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
